Nashoba committee authorizes solar PPA with Solect after legal and consultant review

The Nashoba Regional School Committee authorized Chair Leah Veverito April 29 to execute a power purchase agreement and lease with Solect Energy Development LLC to install district solar under a PPA structure.
During discussion Committee member Scott asked who on the district’s side had reviewed contract and financial terms and whether legal counsel had experience with PPAs and lease agreements. Kirk Downing and district staff said the contracts were vetted by the district’s attorneys at Murphy Hesse Toomey & Lehane and reviewed by the district’s solar consultant, Beth Greenblatt of Beacon Integrated Solutions, who examined pricing, kilowatt rates and buyout terms. "The contract has been thoroughly vetted by our attorneys… and our energy consultant reviewed those elements," a district representative said.
Committee members acknowledged a compressed timeline driven by tax-credit and project deadlines but emphasized the importance of legal and financial review. After that review and a unanimous recommendation from the School Building Committee, the district moved and passed the authorization vote.
What the vote means: the authorization lets the chair finalize agreements to advance the solar project; staff said the district retains contractual protections and opportunities to exit the arrangement if needed.
