The Regional School District 19 finance committee told the board May 5 that the district’s finances are generally sound through the quarter ending March 31, 2026, but highlighted several areas requiring monitoring.
Finance representatives said the district is roughly $9,500 over budget attributable to expenses related to the superintendent search and identified overspending in the cafeteria fund that may require reallocation or staffing adjustments. The superintendent had implemented a soft spending freeze that committee members said helped stabilize finances. The committee recommended the board receive the quarterly report; that item was placed on and later approved from the consent agenda.
Board members discussed options to bring the cafeteria fund back into balance, including potential staffing changes supported by district administration. The finance committee reiterated it will monitor the cafeteria fund and special-education expenditures and report back to the board.
Other consent-agenda items approved included minutes from the April meeting and personnel consent items (including recommended exit payments of $2,000 for two administrators); board members split an item for separate votes as requested and then approved the consent agenda by voice vote. Where the transcript recorded voice approvals, it did not supply a precise numerical tally.
Next steps: finance will continue to monitor the cafeteria fund and special-education line items, provide recommendations if structural changes are needed, and include updates in the next quarter report.
