At the start of the agenda the board returned to a reorganization motion. A member moved that Sarah Campbell take the chair of the Select Board; the motion was seconded and prompted debate about transparency and whether decisions had been made outside of a quorum. Some members expressed reluctance to change leadership quickly and asked for time to consider the request.
Public commenter Steve Carman said he had no objection and described Sarah as “very responsive and on the ground,” offering his support. The motion advanced to a vote amid procedural discussion; members spoke about prior commitments about agenda process and whether reorganization should be handled differently in the future.
Separately, the board discussed the town treasurer vacancy and a possible shared position with another town (OKAM) or recruiting through state municipal job boards. Lori, the town accountant, and Karen confirmed the opening had been widely posted, but candidates with required experience have been limited. The board directed follow-up outreach and agreed to add the treasurer posting and any recommended staffing changes to a future agenda.
The board also moved and approved routine personnel actions later in the meeting, including appointment of Beth Coughlin as clerk and appointment of Devin Resnik as highway administrative assistant, and accepted a resignation for a highway administrative assistant role.
What happens next: Personnel and governance items remain on the board’s active list, with the treasurer posting to be revisited and additional interviews or shared-service conversations to be arranged.
