Killingly Board approves France‑Spain field trip, renews food contract, raises meal prices and transfers funds for special‑education services

The Killingly Board of Education on June 11 approved several routine but consequential items: a proposed KHS spring‑break trip to France and Spain in 2027, renewal of the district’s food services contract, a $0.50 increase in the minimum student meal price for 2025–26, and a budget transfer to pay $106,114.57 in charges for ProTech special‑education services.
David Rollinson described the proposed immersion trip to France and Spain as a way to deepen students’ language and cultural learning; Kevin Marcoux moved to approve the trip and Misty Murdock seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
Superintendent Susan Nash reported the district is pleased with its partnership with Whitsons; Kevin Marcoux moved to approve the food services contract for 2025–26, and the motion passed unanimously after positive comment from board members.
Nash said a compliance tool recommended increasing the minimum student meal price by $0.50. Tim Mugan told the board he did not recommend raising the price by more than $0.50. The board approved the $0.50 increase unanimously and the fiscal committee will study Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) options for 2026–27.
The board also approved a budget transfer of $106,114.57 to zero out lines and cover ProTech services used primarily for speech and language support through French River, explaining the district had used an outside agency because the Speech Pathologist position was vacant until March. Kevin Marcoux moved and Kyle Napierata seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
All four items were approved by voice vote; no member opposed.
