District facilities director: new RHAM track entering 28-day cure period; summer projects largely complete

Regional School District 08 facilities staff reported the athletic track asphalt is in a 28-day curing period before a rubberized running surface and striping can be installed, and summarized summer capital and maintenance work including sidewalk repairs, indoor air-quality upgrades and installation of three storage sheds.
Michael Schlehofer, facilities staff for Regional School District 08, briefed the board on capital projects and routine summer work.
Schlehofer said the new athletic track’s asphalt is undergoing a 28-day rest/cure period to allow oils to dissipate before crews install a rubberized membrane and paint lines. "Currently, we're doing a 28 day rest period of the asphalt to let the oils seep out of it and evaporate before, they'll put down the membrane which is the rubberized membrane that the students would run on and then paint the lines," Schlehofer said. He said turnover to the district was anticipated in late August or "about the third week in August pending weather."
He reported roughly $40,000 budgeted for concrete and sidewalk repairs that have been completed, completion of an ADA-access punch list at the middle school (punch list items remain), purchase and installation of three sheds and removal of three older units, and substantial custodial and maintenance tasks (cleaning, painting, GFI testing, sprinkler and fire-system inspections). An indoor air-quality project funded by grants was described as about 80% complete, with remaining programing work to be finished behind the scenes.
The board and facilities staff discussed perimeter fencing, scoreboard footing work, and timing for public access; administrators said community communication would be sent while the site remains under contractor control.
