Hoosac Valley committee adopts comprehensive position paper, adds quantitative edits

The Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee voted unanimously Sept. 23 to adopt a comprehensive position paper and a condensed one-page summary, with edits to include quantitative information about the district's students and employees and clarifications about the budget drivers.

Erin Milne, who presented the papers on behalf of the Audit & Evaluation subcommittee, said the comprehensive version was written to be "very comprehensive" and recommended approval so excerpts could be used in public communications. Committee member Fred Lora requested adding specific community-impact numbers — such as total students, number of employees and per-pupil-expenditure comparisons — and correcting spelling of members' names. The committee agreed to the edits and to make both versions available online.

Superintendent Aaron Dean confirmed the documents are public once approved and may be posted on the district website and shared via social media, but district resources cannot be used to print and distribute them; parent-teacher organizations and other community groups may circulate copies. The amended motion to approve both the comprehensive paper and the one-page summary passed unanimously.

The committee also discussed presentation format and accessibility: members asked that the online long-form document include a table-of-contents bar for easier navigation. The committee thanked Milne and the subcommittee for their work and agreed to monitor feedback after posting.
