Pella council approves sanitary‑sewer contract for rec center and accepts West 9th Street public improvements

The Pella City Council on Monday approved a series of construction actions: it authorized the sanitary sewer construction contract and bond tied to the indoor recreation aquatic center, accepted final quantities and public improvements for the West 9th Street Improvements Project and accepted a sanitary sewer extension for West 9th Street.

Mike, a city staff presenter, said the sanitary sewer contract for the recreation center had been recommended for award to Track Construction in the amount of $1,118,552; the city attorney reviewed the performance bond and staff recommended approval of the contract and bond. “This item is made award with this resolution to do what is approved the construction contract as well as the performance bond for the sanitary sewer improvements associated with the public rec center,” Mike told council.

On the West 9th Street improvements, staff reported a quantities adjustment that reduced the change order by $4,750, setting the final construction contract at about $318,700 and total project cost near $384,000 when engineering and other items are included. Garden Associates provided construction observation and concluded the street work was substantially complete.

Staff also recommended acceptance of roughly 600 linear feet of sanitary sewer installed for the West 9th Street sanitary extension; a maintenance bond had been submitted and staff and the city attorney recommended approval.

Council approved the contract award, change order and acceptances unanimously. Staff said the Pella Retail Management had contributed about $220,000 toward the West 9th Street project under a development agreement.
