At its Feb. 10 meeting, the Marlborough City School Committee approved several administrative and personnel actions presented by district staff and voted to accept multiple donations.
Substitute pay: The committee voted to raise substitute teacher pay to $135 per day and paraeducator/behavior-tech substitute pay to $110 per day after HR Director Patty Brown told the committee the previous hourly equivalency for paras had fallen below minimum wage when shift lengths changed.
Calendar and policy: The committee approved the 2026–27 school calendar with a correction to a professional-development/election-day entry, and it voted to adopt the middle-school pathway exploration policy (submitted to the department of elementary and secondary education and revised per state comments).
Student trip and donations: The committee approved a chaperoned, overnight trip (March 6–8) for three Business Professionals of America students to attend the state leadership conference and accepted several donations, including a $2,500 MEF grant and multiple discretionary and food-assistance gifts.
Votes and procedure: Each motion carried with the committee’s voice vote; no roll-call tallies were read into the record. Committee members raised questions about participation numbers for BPA and the goal of widening substitute pools; HR and teachers said the pay increase aimed to improve coverage.
What’s next: The district finance office will publish the final 2026–27 calendar and return any budget-related questions to the committee at an upcoming budget workshop. HR will implement the new substitute rates.
