Superintendent previews accreditation visit, enrollment trends and program priorities

The Manchester-Essex Regional superintendent updated the school committee on enrollment, an impending accreditation site visit and district initiatives aimed at curriculum alignment and student supports.

The superintendent said enrollment numbers presented tonight are preliminary and that the October report will provide the official headcount used for financial planning. She told the committee the district will host an external accreditation/site visit Oct. 22-23 to review documentation, conduct focus groups and offer recommendations that will inform the districts improvement plans.

Administrators described technology upgrades (interactive whiteboard replacements financed through a multi-year leasing plan), and a pilot of the Raptor visitor-management system at Memorial School that logs visitors, issues photo badges and can trigger alerts for restricted individuals. The superintendent and school leaders said the Raptor roll-out has faced technical difficulties in testing but that the system is now functioning in trial mode.

Presenters also summarized instructional priorities: aligning curriculum and assessment practices across elementary schools; a unified MTSS model for literacy and math with district-level specialists; and two newly hired instructional coaches shared across schools. Staff emphasized family engagement efforts — one-page curriculum guides for families and STEAM events — as part of improving transparency and supporting classroom practice.

Whathappens next: The district will publish a fuller October enrollment packet for budget planning, proceed with the accreditation visit in late October, continue the Raptor pilot at Memorial School, and bring any material policy or budget implications back to the committee.
