Assistant Superintendent James Kiely reported on summer facilities and maintenance during the July 22 meeting, citing progress on multiple projects: an overhaul of the Dartmouth High School library media center, an auditorium sound system upgrade, tennis court refurbishment, roof repairs, HVAC improvements, a new door-access swipe-card system and asbestos abatement at DeMello and Quinn.
Superintendent June Saba-Maguire provided district updates including summer-program enrollment and staffing: 169 PreK–12 students enrolled in Extended School Year programs, 112 K–5 students in summer academic programs, 75 Dartmouth High School students in credit-recovery programs, and 177 completed kindergarten registrations to date. She also noted recent hires, ongoing recruitment for education support personnel and substitutes, and plans for a strategic-planning team meeting and a leadership retreat in August.
Chair Chris Oliver updated the committee on the superintendent evaluation process and proposed rescheduling the August 19 meeting to August 26, 2024; members agreed to the change. The committee also agreed to hold a workshop in September facilitated by the Massachusetts Association of School Committees to focus on committee goals and the evaluation process.
At 7:07 p.m. John Nunes moved and Kathleen Amaral seconded a motion to adjourn into executive session for an update on a pending DEA grievance and legal matters and not to return to open session; the motion passed on a roll-call vote, 5-0.
