West Geauga board approves year-end transfers, contracts and donations; renews treasurer's agreement

At its regular meeting, the West Geauga Local School District board approved a series of routine fiscal and operational items, including year-end transfers, advances of federal reimbursements, final appropriations for fiscal year 2026, and permanent appropriations for 2027.
The board voted by roll call to approve financial motions presented in Resolutions 193–197 and 198, which staff described as steps to close the 2026 fiscal year and open the 2027 budget. Staff explained some transfers cleared negative food-service balances as required by federal law and that some federal reimbursement funds (IDEA, Title IV, preschool funds) are processed as advances because they are paid on a reimbursement basis.
In other business, the board accepted a $13,000 LEAF (Lake Geauga Educational Association Foundation) donation earmarked for show choir risers (Resolution 199). Staff said the donation includes a recognition commitment and will return to the board with purchase details before funds are spent.
Board members approved multiple service agreements and addenda for special education, paraprofessional and therapy services for 2026–27 (Resolutions 219–227), a multi-year service agreement with the ESC of the Western Reserve and related addenda, and an E-rate Category Two switch upgrade and cabling project (Resolution 229). The board also approved a five-year copier lease through Toshiba Financial Services with a reported annual decrease in cost (Resolution 230).
Facility projects approved included a sidewalk proposal for Westwood Elementary (Always Construction LLC) and continued work on the Westwood pre-K renovation; staff said the pre-K renovation is self-funded and intended to reduce the district’s reliance on out-of-district placements for some students.
After reconvening from executive session, the board approved Resolution 234 to renew the treasurer's employment agreement. The board also voted to table Resolution 235, the school resource officer memorandum of understanding with the Chester Township Police Department.
