Planning staff and the fire reviewer told the board that the design meets fire and occupancy-code requirements. The board discussed that, under zoning code section 200-34 cited during the meeting, detached accessory structures must meet a 12-foot separation from the principal structure; the proposed pavilion would be detached but within the measured compliance the building reviewer approved.
The applicant said a state grant of roughly $200,000 will fund the structure and that planned uses include small concerts, educational activities for children and meetings tied to the museum's programs. The board accepted the application and voted to schedule a public hearing to consider the variance request.
Next steps: staff will post a public hearing notice and include plans, the reviewer’s notes and grant information in the July 28 packet. The appointed board member will perform a site visit ahead of the hearing.
