During public comment, Crystal Baldman and her husband Ty introduced their family and recounted their daughter Kristine’s medical journey. Crystal described the discovery of a brain tumor after a 2019 injury, periodic MRIs through 2022, a May 2023 operation to remove the tumor when it began pressing on an optic nerve, and an emergency June 2024 surgery to place a permanent shunt to drain intracranial fluid.
After those interventions, the family sought further options and connected with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which accepted Kristine into a clinical-trial program using SJ91, a targeted MEK-inhibitor therapy. Crystal said the treatment produced a ‘‘miraculous’’ response and that Kristine is now almost cancer-free while taking a daily oral regimen. The family announced a nonprofit, Standing with Crystal, to raise awareness and support other families; Crystal invited residents to follow the effort on Facebook.
Ending: The council thanked the family for sharing their story and the meeting moved on.
