Jackson County amends marina rules to ban living aboard; tenants get 90 days to comply

The Jackson County Commission voted Jan. 28 to amend county campground and marina rules to prohibit use of rented boat slips for permanent residential purposes. Under the new rule, a renter may not stay overnight on a vessel moored in the county marina for more than 10 nights in any 30‑day period. Current renters with existing recreational rental agreements were given a 90‑day compliance window from the date of adoption.
Chair read the motion on the record and commissioners moved, seconded and approved the change by voice vote. County staff said the amendment will be applied to all existing recreational rental agreements and that renters must maintain a permanent residential address outside county park facilities.
The motion amended existing policy language to clarify living‑on‑vessel definitions and compliance timelines; no fines or enforcement mechanisms were specified during the meeting. The change takes effect the first day of the month immediately following adoption; staff said they will provide compliance guidance to current tenants.
