School Committee votes unanimously to submit MSBA Statement of Interest for Dartmouth High School roof and window work

The Dartmouth School Committee on Feb. 10 unanimously authorized submission of a Statement of Interest (SOI) to the Massachusetts School Building Authority for Dartmouth High School at 555 Bakerville Road, citing multiple facility deficiencies.
District staff described the submission as a Priority 5 SOI (replacement, renovation or modernization of facility systems to increase energy conservation and decrease energy costs). The SOI text included a summary of observed deficiencies: the district’s fully adhered EPDM roof "has reached the end of its serviceable life," through-wall flashings and stone caps show failure that allows water infiltration, many windows have failed seals and are fogged, and rooftop unit curbs and flashings are severely rusted and sources of water infiltration.
James Kiely briefed the committee on the MSBA application process and noted the SOI does not guarantee an MSBA grant or approval. John Nunes moved the resolution, seconded by Kathleen Amaral; the motion passed on a roll-call vote of 5-0.
The committee’s vote authorizes the superintendent to submit the SOI; Kiely and facilities staff indicated they will supply any additional documentation the MSBA requires if the district is invited to apply. The SOI and associated facility documentation will be part of the district’s effort to seek state support for roof and window replacement work.
