At the April 14 meeting the Peosta City Council read a proclamation recognizing April as Donate Life Month and declaring April 24, 2026, "Live Like Cam Day" in honor of local organ donors and the legacy of Cameron Shafer.
Amy Copeland of 639 Melinda Drive (who identified herself as Cameron Shafer’s mother) thanked the council and described how Cameron's decision to register as an organ donor affected multiple people: "Because of that decision his life continues on in others," she said, and she urged residents to consider registering as donors and to participate in the Light It Green for Cam initiative on April 24.
Mayor Pro Tem Brian W. Schacht read the proclamation into the record, encouraged residents and businesses to light buildings green on April 24 and said signed copies would be made available to the family and posted on city social media. Councilmembers and staff agreed to help promote the event.
