Aurelia Council approves $142,006 construction payment, health plan renewal and employee pay increases

The Aurelia City Council on Dec. 15 approved a series of routine and financial actions including a $142,006.17 payment to Haselhoff Construction, renewal of the city—mployee health insurance plan and merit wage increases for several municipal employees.
Mayor Pro-Tem Roman Redig called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. Council member Nelson moved to approve the consent agenda; Fassler seconded and the roll-call vote was unanimous. The consent agenda included minutes, clerk/treasurer reports and listed bills payable and fund disbursements for December.
Council approved Haselhoff Construction payment application #4 in the amount of $142,006.17. The motion was made by Council member Fassler, seconded by Bruce, and passed with all members voting "aye." The public works and police reports were presented; council discussed hiring a part-time officer (the matter was tabled until a budget workshop) and asked the police chief to obtain estimates for a replacement law-enforcement vehicle.
Staff reviewed the annual employee health insurance renewal showing a premium increase of 11.67%. Council member Bruce moved to approve the Wellmark annual renewal; Johnson seconded and the council voted unanimously to accept the renewal.
The council also approved personnel changes: Johnson moved to eliminate two expiring seats on the library board, reducing it to five members; that motion passed unanimously. Nelson moved to reappoint Michelle Swanson, Rod Hasenwinkel and Greyling Fredericksen to the Planning & Zoning board; Fassler seconded and the motion carried. Nelson also moved to reappoint Randy Hale to the Board of Adjustment; Bruce seconded and the motion passed.
Fassler moved and Bruce seconded approval of bad debt write-offs and state offsets totaling $717.33; the motion carried with all members voting "aye." Council approved wage increases for named municipal employees: Mark Sangwin to $37.92/hour, Dustin Wieland to $31.72/hour, Brian Flikeid to $35.38/hour, Steph McSparran to $28.45/hour, Laursen to $19.75/hour and Miller to $23.50/hour. The motion to adopt these wage adjustments was made by Bruce and seconded by Johnson and passed unanimously.
Jackie Bleil was sworn in as a new council member during the meeting. Council set a budget workshop for Jan. 26 (the minutes list a year that appears inconsistent with the meeting date; the year is not specified here). With no further business, Mayor Pro-Tem Redig adjourned the meeting at 8:07 p.m.
