St. Martinville council directs ordinances to ease mobile-home moving and change setback rules

Planning & Zoning Coordinator Calder Hebert recommended removing the city's requirement that a moving permit be obtained for mobile homes. The council voted to have City Attorney Allan L. Durand prepare an ordinance to remove that requirement and present it for final adoption at the next meeting. Hebert additionally recommended revising minimum setbacks for mobile homes; the council directed the attorney to draft an amendment setting minimum setbacks to Front 20 feet, Side 10 feet and Rear 10 feet (Rear 20 feet if the mobile home is placed parallel to the roadway).
The council's action at this meeting was to direct drafting of the ordinances; no ordinance was adopted at this session. Next steps: the city attorney will prepare drafts for council consideration at the next meeting where formal readings, debate and a vote may occur.
