School committee approves SRO MOU; officer to be assigned to middle and high school

The Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding for a School Resource Officer at its Aug. 26 meeting.
Superintendent Aaron Dean introduced Dave Tarjick as the incoming SRO and said Tarjick is "very excited to get on board." Dean said his understanding is that the officer will be armed. District counsel reviewed the MOU and the committee reviewed Standard Operating Procedures; the committee approved the MOU by unanimous vote.
Committee members discussed how the first-year annual review would be conducted. Adam Emerson asked whether there would be a concise review process; Dean said the evaluation will use several tools similar to a teacher evaluation and that he will coordinate a rubric with Chief Alibozek.
Erin Milne moved and Mike Henault seconded approval of the MOU; the motion passed unanimously. The committee did not take a separate vote on the SOPs, which Dean said will be used operationally and discussed with the police chief.
Next steps: Administration will finalize MOU execution and begin onboarding the SRO; the superintendent and police chief will develop an evaluation rubric and timeline for annual review.
