Des Moines County supervisors approve claims, payroll and a countywide rural cleanup program

Des Moines County Board of Supervisors on March 17 approved routine financial and personnel items and advanced a county cleanup program.
The board voted to approve accounts payable claims totaling $671,335.95 (checks $580,515.21; other/wire $90,820.74) after a motion and second in the consent agenda. A separate motion to approve payroll reimbursement claims of $461.91 passed by roll call.
Supervisors also approved several personnel actions. Carissa Mackey was hired as a naturalist intern for the conservation department at $15 per hour, effective March 30, 2026. Marcus Knack, environmental education manager with the conservation department, received a scheduled step increase effective March 19. The board recorded the completion of employment for Payton Krommyer, a correctional officer, effective March 10.
The board approved a countywide rural resident cleanup program to run Monday, April 6 through Saturday, June 6, 2026 (or until county program credits are depleted). The program accepts metal items (lawnmowers, fencing, appliances), household items (sofas, mattresses, rugs), and recyclable appliances (refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, air conditioners and stoves) at the county recycling center. Residents must furnish proof of residency to use the service.
Board members also adopted amendments to minutes from the March 10, 2026 regular meeting.
The meeting included routine department reports from county staff and a public-input period; the board then adjourned into a work session on the proposed floodplain development ordinance update (see separate article).
