The Old Saybrook Board of Education endorsed a list of new course proposals and pathway concepts intended to expand elective offerings and align the high school with the district’s strategic plan. Administration asked for an early endorsement so the materials could be shown to eighth graders during outreach meetings.
Superintendent Chris Dreszic and staff presented a range of electives and pathway ideas, noting that some courses would be offered depending on staffing and student interest. The proposed High School of Business is an existing trademarked curriculum option that the district may adopt or adapt; administration estimated an initial first‑year cost of about $10,000 to kick off the program. “There are no bad ideas,” Dreszic said, describing the list as an open set of possibilities the district will refine as it confirms staffing and enrollment.
The board signaled consensus to move ahead with the endorsement so students can see the program offerings and request courses during scheduling. Board members requested follow‑up details on prerequisites, sequencing, impacts on honors/AP options, and how new courses will be integrated with scheduling and counseling.
Next steps: Administration will finalize course descriptions and sequencing, run enrollment and staffing analyses, and return to the board with concrete schedules and any costs for adoption of specified curricula.
