Facilities report: Ridgefield completes 58 of 65 summer projects; LED upgrade and alternative‑school build continue

Ridgefield’s facilities team told the Board of Education on Sept. 29 that crews and contractors completed the vast majority of planned summer work and continued work on several larger capital items.
Facilities director Joe Moritz told the board the district had charted 65 projects this summer and that 58 were completed, with two projects deferred for timing and three still underway. Major items included phase‑one of an LED lighting upgrade at Ridgefield High School (about 75% complete), bathroom renovations at East Ridge Middle School and Branchville, rooftop HVAC replacements and new air conditioning in a gym at Ridgebury, carpet and interior updates, and multiple roof projects completed in partnership with the town.
"By the numbers, in total, we had charted 65 projects for this summer. Currently, 58 projects have been completed," Moritz told the board. He noted a sizable Eversource rebate tied to the LED retrofit that requires completing phase two to realize the full incentive.
On the capital side, the Prospect Ridge alternative high‑school site has moved from site work into structural framing with visible progress on steel and foundation work; Moritz said furniture, fixtures and timing remain part of coordination with the town. The Barlow Gym floor replacement was deferred after environmental issues were discovered during inspection and will be scheduled for a later summer window.
Moritz also reported routine testing and compliance checks, several hundred gallons of floor wax and paint applied across the district, and that some projects depend on supply‑chain timing for fixtures and solar re‑installation. He noted most work was budgeted in the 2025–26 capital plan and that the team will continue to coordinate with the town for grant reimbursement on selected roof projects.
Next steps include completing the remaining capital scopes, finalizing orders for furniture and fixtures for Prospect Ridge, and returning to the board with budget and timing updates as projects close or require rescheduling.
