Cohoes honors graduates, long-serving retirees and new tenure recipients

The Cohoes City School District paused routine business on June 17 to honor students, retirees and staff receiving tenure.
Ashley read a message from student coordinator Hiba praising the school year's activities: "This school year has truly been a memorable one. We brought so many great ideas to life that made the year even better than we imagined," the read statement said.
Dr. Carla announced the top honor students in the Class of 2026, naming Haley (valedictorian, GPA reported as 100.70) and Oliver (GPA reported as 100.27) and noting upcoming senior awards and graduation events. District leaders then recognized retirees from the high school, Rose Middle School, Harmony Hill and other buildings, naming staff such as Lorie Chevier, Rich Morris, Courtney Valenni, Bill Sheldon, Patty Scott, Christine Brooks, Maggie (26 years), Miss Fitzgerald (27 years) and principal Cliff Bird (36 years), praising their long service and institutional contributions.
The board also recognized teachers and staff granted tenure, including Mr. Dan Shepard for his STEM and mathematics work at the high school and several new tenure recipients across elementary and middle schools. Speakers described recipients' work with special education students, STEM curriculum development and leadership in building-based teams.
The public portion of the meeting ended after the recognitions; the board then briefly adjourned for a reception and returned to convene an executive session later in the evening.
