Council gives city manager discretion on park hours to accommodate heat and programming, 5–2

Ordinance 754‑26, which amends section 93.07 of the Page City Code relating to park hours, passed the council on June 24 by a 5–2 vote.
Proponents said giving the city manager discretionary authority to adjust park hours will allow the city to respond to extreme heat, programming needs (pickleball and other court sports) and special events such as concerts at John C. Page Memorial Park. Councilor Rountree and others argued later evening hours are common in hot climates to allow recreational activity when temperatures fall.
Opponents raised concerns about noise, light impacts and potential public‑safety consequences in residential neighborhoods if hours were extended without limits; one councilor asked that the police department remain engaged in scheduling decisions. The city manager said he will coordinate with police and other departments before making schedule changes.
Council adopted the ordinance with Councilors Farrow and Hammond recorded as the two nay votes. Council directed staff to consult with police and impacted departments when setting specific schedules.
