City planning commissioners unanimously approved a resolution on June 29 authorizing a 20‑year lease between the U.S. Department of Transportation/Federal Aviation Administration and the City of La Crosse for a piece of leased city land used as an inbound airplane marker on Rim of the City Road.
Director Train explained the lease is processed through the parks department because the land is city‑owned and used by the FAA. Jim Flotmeyer of the Parks Department said the prior lease produced no revenue and that staff negotiated a payment of $1,500 per year as compensation to the city after roughly two years of discussions.
Flotmeyer described the site as an inbound airplane marker and said staff and Parks leadership (including Leah Miller) began talks about compensation about two years ago. The commission voted to approve the lease by unanimous voice vote.
