Council approves downtown Truck & Tap stage variance with conditions

The City Council approved V-26-10, allowing Truck & Tap to place a covered 12-by-16-foot performance stage up against its rear property line in downtown Alpharetta, subject to five staff conditions.
Planning staff said the small parcel (0.129 acres) creates exceptional conditions and that positioning the stage on the rear property line directs sound toward the city parking lot rather than neighboring businesses. Staff recommended conditions that include a screen wall with base plantings, a binding-line landscaping row, restrictions on food-truck encroachment of pedestrian easements, and coordination with the city’s Parks and Recreation department for event scheduling.
Council members pressed staff on permanence (staff: approval runs with the property), noise enforcement (municipal noise ordinance), and appearance (screen wall finished and stained with plantings). Applicants Mitch Jaffe and Cliff Kryder told council they had coordinated with staff and nearby businesses and agreed to the proposed conditions.
Councilman Hipes moved approval; Councilman Brady seconded. The motion passed 6–0.
What’s next: Staff will implement the conditions and the city will rely on its noise ordinance and event coordination to manage future downtown programming.
