Otis Public Library trustees approve director’s report, expand winter hours and set fall events

Trustees recorded attendance by Sue Brofman (Trustee), Tom Burke (Trustee), Rosy Crittendon (Trustee), Greg Dow (Trustee), Diane Dyer (Trustee), Stephanie Skinner (Trustee) and Celeste Watman (Trustee). A motion to accept the minutes of the Sept. 11 meeting was made, seconded and approved. A separate motion to accept the director’s report was also made, seconded and approved. Trustees noted healthy program attendance over the summer and that the library issued many new library cards. The board reviewed a slate of upcoming programs and events: Cookbook Club, Pumpkin Painting, a New England Ghosts program, Community of Light guided meditations, a cookie swap to be held this year, and plans to schedule another Open Mic night before the end of the year. Library staff reported that presenter Peter Cameron’s two talks last month were well attended; the board recorded that an "Origins of Otis" presentation will be offered again via Zoom in January or February.
The board recorded a change to the planned start date for expanded winter hours: the schedule will take effect Oct. 14 (the record notes it will not begin Oct. 7). The adopted winter schedule listed in the meeting record is: Tuesday 2–5 p.m.; Wednesday 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Friday 11 a.m.–5 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Trustees also said the library’s annual appeal will be distributed in digital and print formats soon. A motion to accept the Friends of the Library report was made, seconded and approved; the transcript does not identify the Friends representative who presented the report. The board discussed the upcoming Trunk or Treat party and requested donations for the event, and reviewed setup logistics for an Oct. 11 piano fundraiser.
The trustees scheduled their next meeting for Nov. 13 and adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
