Webster County supervisors approve personnel step increases, large pay application and facility contract

The Webster County Board of Supervisors approved a series of routine personnel and contract actions at its Aug. 13, 2024 meeting in Fort Dodge.
On a motion approved unanimously among those present, the board accepted the transfer of Corrections Officer Erika Mikita from full‑time to PRN (on‑call) effective Sept. 1, 2024, and authorized the Webster County Sheriff to recruit to fill the resulting full‑time vacancy. The board also approved multiple annual step increases for sheriff’s office and county staff, including: Emma Spicher‑Halligan (Clerk, Recorder’s Office) from $25.85 to $26.21 per hour; Savannah Aikin (Corrections Officer) from $24.19 to $24.93 per hour; Kamden Kramer (Corrections Officer) from $25.40 to $26.18 per hour; Madeline Richardson (Corrections Officer) from $26.18 to $26.68 per hour (effective Aug. 30, 2024); Caroline Nelson (Communications Dispatcher) from $21.69 to $22.23 per hour (effective Aug. 15, 2024); and step increases for deputies Corey Wood, Daniel Charlson and Matt Burns to Step 6 ($39.28 per hour at Step 6). The board also approved a certification pay increase for Communications Dispatcher Samantha Bovero from $20.09 to $21.15 per hour following certification.
The board approved Pay Application #11 to Wicks Construction in the amount of $978,579.72 for the Badger Trail Connection, per the recommendation of Conservation Director Matt Cosgrove, and approved a contract with Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP for fire‑alarm NAC panel replacement and testing. The Johnson Controls approval notes that any existing notification devices or wiring found faulty during testing would require a change order.
The board also authorized the chair to sign a quit claim deed transferring Webster County’s interest in parcel 1117177016 (adjacent to 2365 Elm St.) to Charles Fortney, received and placed on file the annual manure management plan for West Roland Pork (1236 290th St., Callender), issued a proclamation from the North Central Opioid Task Force recognizing National Overdose Awareness Day, allowed claims as presented, and adjourned the meeting.
