Board of Fire Engineers approves $992,996 Engine 1 purchase and adopts FY27 Fire and Ambulance budgets

The Board of Fire Engineers voted Jan. 5 to approve meeting minutes and multiple vouchers and to authorize purchase of a replacement Engine 1 for $992,996.
Board members Kate Cannie, Jim Dawley and Paul Copponi approved the financial items during the open session held in the Fire Station Meeting Room. The voucher approvals included Ambulance payments totaling $7,906.48 and $22,262.00 and Fire payments totaling $5,547.31, $10,817.80 and $992,996.00 for the Engine 1 replacement.
Chief Gerry Smith presented the Officer’s Report and noted that the department completed a pre-delivery inspection of the new Engine 1 and that “the Town [is] to take delivery on January 9, 2026.” He said the old Engine 1 will be put on MMA bid “per Chapter 30b.”
The board also reviewed and adopted the Fire Department FY27 budget totaling $943,943, which the minutes show includes $812,643 for salaries and $131,300 for expenses. The Ambulance FY27 budget was adopted at $559,788, including $484,281 for salaries and $75,507 for expenses.
No vote tallies or roll-call details were recorded in the minutes for the approvals. The board scheduled its next regular open meeting for Feb. 2, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. and adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
