School committee awards $48,000 design contract for DeMello and Potter fire-alarm replacement

The Dartmouth School Committee voted unanimously Jan. 6 to award a $48,000 contract to GGD Consulting Engineers for design services for the DeMello and Potter Fire Alarm and Detection System Replacement Project.
Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations James Kiely presented Resolution 25-01 and told the committee that four proposals had been submitted; the Design Selection Committee selected GGD as "the most responsive, responsible and advantageous proposal." Elizabeth Coughlin moved the award; Mary Beckwith seconded and the motion passed 4-0. Chairperson Chris Oliver and members Elizabeth Coughlin, Mary Beckwith and Kathleen Amaral voted yes; John Nunes was absent.
Why it matters: the district said it has funding for the design portion that was approved at a prior town meeting and has included the construction phase in its current capital improvement plan. Kiely noted the construction work remains on the capital plan and the project will proceed through the district’s procurement and construction processes once design is complete.
The resolution text specifies the negotiated design fee of $48,000. The committee did not vote on construction funding at the meeting; Mr. Kiely said construction is expected to be addressed through the capital planning process and future town meetings.
The committee also approved routine minutes and adjourned by unanimous vote. The district packet lists the project documents and the resolution as exhibits to the meeting record.
