Committee continues FY26 budget planning; agrees to abstain on multiple M.A.S.C. resolutions

The Dartmouth School Committee received a preliminary update on FY26 budget work and discussed several Massachusetts Association of School Committees (M.A.S.C.) resolutions ahead of the association's Delegate Assembly.
James Kiely reported that the Budget Sub-Committee met Oct. 28 to begin number-setting for a draft FY26 budget and that district administrators and Town Administration are having constructive conversations as the Committee works toward a proposed budget. Kiely said work on a FY26-FY35 Capital Improvement Plan is underway with district administrators and will be brought to the Committee for review.
On M.A.S.C. resolutions, Chair Chris Oliver opened discussion and the Committee said it would abstain on Resolutions #5, #6, #8, #9 and #10. Committee members explained abstention indicates neither full endorsement nor opposition and reflects a view that association resolutions should focus on issues that broadly support school districts statewide.
No formal committee votes on the budget were recorded at the meeting; the budget process will continue through upcoming subcommittee meetings and conversations with the Town Administration.
