Deep River issues RFP for firehouse design, continues budget talks and prepares for town clerk retirement

At the Feb. 10 meeting, the Deep River Board of Selectmen said a request for proposals for design services for a new or renovated firehouse has been issued and that no design firm has been selected yet.
On budgets, multiple meetings have been held between the board and the Board of Education; department heads are meeting with the selectmen as town budget development continues. The board encouraged the public to attend Board of Education meetings to follow budget discussions.
Town clerk transition: Town Clerk Amy Winchell announced her retirement effective early July 2026. The board said it will begin a search for her replacement and extended appreciation for Winchell’s 16 years of service.
Community events and anniversary planning: The Deep River 250th Anniversary Committee reported a town logo, requested more members and noted a Muster scheduled for the third Saturday in July; the library plans one program per month for the anniversary. Upcoming community fundraisers and events include “Jams for Cans” on March 14 and a Rotary Club wine-tasting fundraiser on Feb. 22; the EDC also plans a Frost to Flower event on March 21.
No formal votes were taken on the firehouse procurement or on budget items during this meeting.
