Joint Corning and Villisca school boards hold two closed sessions for personnel evaluation

The Boards of Education for the Corning Comm School District and the Villisca Community School District met in a special joint session at Southwest Valley High School on March 17, 2025. President Staci Venteicher called the meeting to order at 7:12 p.m.

Howard Anderson moved to approve the agenda and Stephanie Hodapp seconded; the motion carried unanimously. Shortly after, the boards voted to enter a closed session under Section 21.5(1)(i) of the open meetings law to evaluate the professional competency of an individual who had requested a closed session. The roll call vote recorded five yes votes—Anderson, Adam Boswell, Hodapp, Trent Roberts and Venteicher—and no opposing votes. The boards entered closed session at 7:13 p.m. and returned to open session at 7:58 p.m.; the transcript does not record any public personnel action taken at that time.

The boards recessed, and Paul Tedesco and Bob Olson were recorded as entering the meeting at 8:10 p.m. At 8:12 p.m. the boards again voted to enter a closed session under Section 21.5(1)(i) for the same personnel-evaluation purpose; the same five members were recorded voting yes and there were no no votes. The boards returned to open session at 9:30 p.m.

Howard Anderson moved and Trent Roberts seconded to adjourn; the motion carried unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 9:31 p.m. The public minutes recorded the times of entry to and exit from closed session but did not disclose the substance of the personnel evaluations, consistent with the statutory exception for evaluating professional competency requested to be confidential.
