Bolton High School music directors received board approval Monday for a band and choir trip to Virginia Beach in April 2027 that will include adjudicated performances, clinician feedback and supervised activities.
Mr. Air, who presented the proposal, described the trip as an adjudicated music festival similar to the district's April 2023 trip, with performances evaluated by collegiate-level adjudicators, an on-stage clinic, and recordings and scores returned to students. Proposed travel dates are April 22 to April 25, 2027; lodging was described as a three-night stay at the Windom Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel, with security and on-call travel support from Perkins Travel.
The proposal estimated a cost of $1,029 per student based on 40 students (four students per room) and included three parent chaperones paying $500 each to meet the district's 1:8 chaperone ratio. Mr. Air said the district would encourage, but not require, families to purchase cancel-for-any-reason travel insurance and would offer optional fundraising opportunities through Bolt Music Works to reduce individual costs.
A board member moved to approve the trip; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Administrators said they will continue to refine logistics and fundraising plans with families and the music booster organization.
