Middle school students showcased leadership in finalist submission; elementary students present reading and community projects

Students from the district’s elementary and middle schools presented programs and achievements at the March 12 meeting, emphasizing student leadership and inclusive practices.
A middle-school presenter described the district’s finalist submission to the Connecticut Association of Schools, noting student-led initiatives that anchored the site visit. "The Noise Makers led each route ... they took ownership of it," the presenter said, highlighting the role of student tour guides, 'Noisy News' reporters and Unified Sports in creating an inclusive school climate; the district was recognized as a runner-up for exemplary school climate.
Elementary third-graders from Miss Soda’s class shared classroom successes including a reading challenge, a Valentine’s dance and a creative writing contest. The elementary presentation noted a combined school reading total of 107,000 minutes, which staff used as evidence of strong engagement in literacy programs.
Administrators and board members thanked students and staff, and volunteers were acknowledged for supporting events and the site-visit preparation. The presentations were followed by questions from board members and expressions of appreciation from parents in attendance.
