Jackson County Commission unanimously approves siren upgrades, budget transfer and road striping addition

The Jackson County Commission on Feb. 9 unanimously approved a $37,122.14 budget amendment to fund an upgrade to the county’s mass-notification system, including enhancements to emergency sirens, and added pavement markers for County Road 17 to the 2025 striping list.

Chairman Bill Nance presided over the meeting. Commissioner Chris Gulley moved to approve the mass-notification system upgrade and to amend the General Fund (001) transfer out and the EMA Fund (152) transfer in by $37,122.14; Commissioner Kevin McBride seconded. All five commissioners — Nance, Gulley, Paul Kennamer, A.J. Buckner and Kevin McBride — voted in favor and the motion carried.

Commissioner Paul Kennamer then moved to add pavement markers for CR-17 to the 2025 striping list; Commissioner Gulley seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Earlier in the meeting Commissioner A.J. Buckner moved (seconded by Commissioner Kennamer) to adopt the minutes of the Jan. 28, 2026 meeting and work session; that motion also carried unanimously.

The commission opened with the invocation from County Attorney John Porter and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Commissioner McBride. The agenda for Feb. 9 was approved with a modification to item VI(b) to include "and amend the budget" on a motion by Commissioner Buckner, seconded by McBride.

The commission recorded no opposition on any of these items. The body adjourned following routine closing remarks and scheduled its next meeting for Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the commission boardroom.
