District official outlines drone pilot, food pantry and student programs

Dr. Foreman, presenting for the Office of Strategic Initiatives, briefed the Southeast Delco School District board on several programs and partnerships on June 25.
Dr. Foreman said the district completed a pilot drone program at Academy Park High School in partnership with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit. "We partnered with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit to provide hopper drones to our students as well as a free curriculum where the students got to learn how to build drones but fly them as well," Foreman said, adding the program exposed students to careers in aviation.
He also described a district food pantry, started in November, that he said has served "over 350 families" on the third Saturday of each month; Dr. Foreman asked the community for additional vendors, suppliers and donations to meet rising demand.
Other initiatives highlighted included student coalition groups (an AI group, a student well-being group and a future educators group) intended to allow students to help train teachers, a partnership with Schoolyard Rap to present cultural assemblies for middle-school students, and a grant program that provided $500 to each school in the district this year.
Dr. Foreman described additional supports such as healthy snacks for athletic practices, a resource night in Darby Township for ABA services, teacher mentoring partnerships and donations from retailers to assist families in need. He concluded by noting plans for upcoming community partner events, a back-to-school drive and summer programs.
The presentation included a short video excerpt from Schoolyard Rap; presenters noted some playback issues with the clip during the meeting. No public comments on these initiatives were recorded during the session.
