Polk City council advances and adopts multiple ordinances, waives final reading for building-code update

Council considered several ordinances on their required readings. By roll-call votes the council approved the third and final readings for Ordinance 2026-200, which amends Chapter 25 (city manager purchasing duties), and Ordinance 2026-300, which amends Chapter 58 (urban chickens — zoning districts allowed). Council also conducted the second reading of Ordinance 2026-500 (Chapter 155 — building code); staff requested waiving the third reading so online codification could occur earlier, and the council voted to waive the final reading.

Council members said the building-code update aligns Polk City with surrounding communities and that a six-month implementation period remains appropriate. The waiver of the final reading was presented as a timing measure to get the online codification updated sooner rather than delaying until July.
