The committee chair framed the work as restoring board oversight over curriculum approvals while recognizing that the board approves policy but does not write day-to-day curriculum. "We are responsible for writing policy. We don't write curriculum. The chair said the template could include required elements—scope and sequence, expected knowledge and skills, and unit-level documentation—that teachers would present in K–12 sequence for board review.

Members stressed the difference between curriculum mapping (ensuring grade-to-grade articulation) and curriculum writing (the classroom-level work teachers perform); the committee concluded its role is to oversee and approve the product of that work, not to draft every unit.
Committee member Steve, who described more than three decades in public education, said his experience includes curriculum design and administration. "I have in one form or another been in American public education for 36 years," Steve said, noting that the committee should focus on articulation and review so teachers can concentrate on writing and instruction.
The district administrator present (Dr. Debrio) described the existing instructional-facilitator structure—elementary, middle and high school leads—and said recent K–12 subject-area meetings showed where updates are needed. "We have instructional facilitators in every school; getting their input and a cohesive K–12 presentation will be important to the process," Dr. Debrio said.
Members raised practical questions about how to involve teachers—daytime workshops, substitute coverage and the new option to participate remotely under district policy changes were discussed as possible accommodations. The chair said he and Mr. Dan Flack would work on a plan and that administrators would be asked about feasible schedules and professional development time.
On policy cleanup, the chair said an outside policy author (referred to in the transcript as Jody Goldler and Cape) recently drafted a unified safety-related policy that addresses a range of issues, including guidance about interactions with federal officers at schools. The chair said they would review that draft and identify which existing policies could be consolidated or retired.
The committee agreed to attempt to meet again before its next scheduled meeting in the first week of March to begin groundwork; members said the committee aims to have some units ready for approval before year-end if feasible. The committee will bring the draft template and any recommended policy revisions to the full board for approval.
