Chicopee Council on Aging reports new van in service, facility repairs and three staff vacancies

At its Jan. 14 meeting, the City of Chicopee Council on Aging heard that the RiverMills senior center’s new van has entered service, though staff said it still needs additional identification to clearly link it to RiverMills. Staff also reported that a van provided by MassDOT is expected to arrive by June.
Staff member Sherry Manyak summarized a bundle of operational updates, including a shift to a 2:00 p.m. start time for events that she said performed well, ongoing plans for a Lunar New Year dinner (tickets still available) and a Valentine’s Day dance. The minutes note nine gift cards have been sold following a new cash-register system that itemizes tax separately, which staff said has made change-making more complicated.
The minutes record Friends of RiverMills as reporting $800 raised at the Festival of Trees and planning to support a Vietnam Veterans event, including a donated commemorative leaf. Center repairs are also underway: an HVAC system installation is in progress amid reported temperature swings, and staff plan to replace stair molding and repair carpeting.
The board was told there are three vacancies at the center: a full-time driver position (the minutes state it "has not been posted since 12/17"), a part-time dishwasher and a nurse position that staff said is moving to full-time. The meeting record links those openings to underspending in the fiscal report’s personnel lines.
