Mansfield HRC debriefs Living Black History turnout, discusses Pride event plans

Commissioners reported that the Living Black History event drew more than 60 people and about 20 signed up to help with the Stomping Stones initiative; members also discussed student participation and a story wall for Mansfield Pride 2026.
Jeannine Kanadia told commissioners the Feb. 14 Living Black History event was “successful with over 60 people in attendance” and that about 20 attendees signed up to help with the Stomping Stones initiative.
Members discussed ways to sustain momentum from that event. Kanadia said she had spoken with Amy Nocton at E.O. Smith and that a few students are interested in participating in Mansfield Pride 2026. Jessica St. Louis, Director of Human Services, said organizers plan to include a story wall at Pride for people to share their stories; members briefly discussed additional ideas for the event.
Separately, Hasana Davis reported E.O. Smith plans an interfaith panel in spring that will include community faith leaders and two student representatives. The Equity Council will attend an all-staff meeting at E.O. Smith in April on educational-opportunity issues; members also noted an upcoming NEASC conference at Clark University where a presentation on racism in education is planned.
Commissioners suggested follow-up volunteer recruitment and coordination with school and community partners; no formal actions or votes occurred at the March 4 meeting.
