Members discussed using grant funds for interim inspection support while hiring. The advisory board agreed to reallocate $10,000 from the inspector's salary within the current budget to support inspection coverage. The budget modification table shown to members adjusted the inspector salary to nine months at $75,000 and the Regional Public Health Specialist role to 11 months at $65,000; fringe benefits were reduced to reflect those changes. Elizabeth Moreira (Dighton) moved to approve the budget modification without contracting inspection support; Geri Hamel (Rehoboth) seconded and the motion passed by roll call vote of the voting members present.
During discussion members raised options for interim coverage: Danielle Gurgel (Taunton) offered to provide limited support outside her regular hours pending ethics confirmation; Mike Hugo (MAHB) said he would consult Rich Mucci about any ethics limitations on a full-time health director providing after-hours support. Elizabeth Moreira said she plans to propose that Berkley and Dighton share a health agent and that Dighton could reimburse Berkley for 28 hours of work to cover both towns temporarily.
Next steps assigned to staff include posting the inspector job, finalizing the Regional Public Health Specialist (Sydney) schedule, and circulating the finalized budget modification. The board did not adopt contracting inspection support at this meeting and indicated a request for quotes would be voted on at the next coalition meeting if pursued.
