The Region School District 09 Board of Education unanimously approved faculty‑led student trips to France and Spain in 2026.
Presenters described sample itineraries (Paris, Versailles, Monaco and southern France stops for the France trip; Madrid, Granada and Málaga for Spain), high‑speed train travel within the countries, and experiences such as soap‑making, baguette workshops and local cooking classes. Organizers said current vendor quotes look higher than earlier expectations but should decline when the vendor updates pricing closer to departure. They also described fundraising successes and two $500 scholarships (one for a student attending France, one for Spain) and said chaperone ratios will be maintained at roughly 5:1–6:1.
Board members asked clarifying questions about timing (February break vs. April break) and trip changes from prior iterations (for example, adding different overnight stays to reduce daily bus travel). A motion to approve both trips was seconded (Karen recorded as second) and passed unanimously.
The board encouraged administrators and trip organizers to continue fundraising and to report back after the travel with student presentations. Final trip costs, participant lists and operational details will be set by administration and the trip vendor as plans firm up.
