Corning board accepts two resignations, approves 2025-26 staff assignments and academic plan

CORNING, Iowa — At its May 19, 2025 meeting the Board of Education of the Corning Community Schools accepted two staff resignations and approved a slate of personnel and administrative items for the 2025-2026 school year, all by unanimous vote.
On a motion by Trent Roberts, seconded by Stephanie Hodapp, the board accepted the resignation of Steve McGrew as head tennis coach. The board also accepted the resignation of Robert Mills as high school paraeducator on a motion by Roberts, seconded by Howard Anderson; both motions carried unanimously.
The board approved the district's 2025-2026 lead team members and mentors: Elementary lead-team members Emily Akkermann, Sarah Morrison, Kaci Mullen and Kathy Sothman; High School lead-team members Stephanie Riley, Steve Sonntag, Lisa Sparks and Micayla Vanderhoof. Mentors approved were Kathy Sothman (Elementary) and Lisa Sparks (High School). The board approved a 2025-2026 contract with Lexi Bronner as assistant high school girls' basketball coach pending completion of required licensure.
Separately, the board voted to amend the March 31, 2025 minutes to add the prior motion approving the 2025-2026 school calendar. The board also approved an AEA contract governing transfer of state funding and adopted the District Career & Academic Plan, each on motions recorded as carried unanimously. Finally, the board moved to allow the activities director/principal to approve official and athletic contracts for 2025-2026.
Superintendent Chris Fenster, Board Secretary Jodi Lyddon and building principals Jennifer Bissell and Allison Thomas were present during these actions. The transcript does not record debate or public comment on the personnel or plan approvals. The meeting adjourned at 9:22 p.m.
