Corydon council approves Wayne Schools homecoming street closures, submits DNR demolition notices and clears consent agenda

The City of Corydon City Council on Sept. 10 approved street closures for the Wayne Community Schools homecoming parade scheduled Sept. 26 and authorized the submission to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources of demolition and controlled-burn notices for two properties.
Emersen Gunzenhauser, representing Wayne Community Schools, requested the parade street closures. Councilor Kenny Holmes moved to approve the requested closures; Councilor Chase Clark seconded. The motion carried with four ayes (Dawn Christian, Chase Clark, Kyle Hampton and Kenny Holmes) and no nays.
The council also approved submission of demolition and controlled-burn notices to the Iowa DNR for properties at 313 N Johnson Street and 409 W Jackson Street. Councilor Kyle Hampton moved to approve the DNR notices; Councilor Chase Clark seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
Councilors voted to approve the consent agenda, which included the August receipts report, unpaid and prepaid bills, and the Aug. 27 regular meeting minutes. The consent motion was made by Councilor Dawn Christian and seconded by Councilor Kyle Hampton; the vote was recorded as four ayes, no nays.
The meeting packet included an August receipts summary showing a total of $340,502.78 across municipal funds and a claims list with an itemized vendor subtotal of $134,543.82. Notable line items called out in the claims list included Midwest Sanitation & Recycling ($17,021.56), Wayne County Sheriff 28E agreement ($10,459.10) and a Rathbun Regional Water monthly payment ($19,367.70).
The council set its next regular meeting for Sept. 24, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at 5:58 p.m.
