A yard tractor that had been rented for about $250 per month recently failed; DPW said a replacement rental would likely cost $600 or more per month. Officials presented options to buy a used tractor for approximately $25,000 or to purchase a new tractor for about $50,000.
Committee members asked staff to confirm lease terms, total lifecycle costs and any available warranties so the committee can weigh lease versus purchase options during capital planning. No purchase motion was taken on Jan. 12.
