Selectmen approve equipment purchases, sweeping contract and appointments in routine business session

During a series of routine votes spanning winter and spring meetings, the Stonington selectmen approved several operational purchases, contracts and appointments.
The board approved purchasing a gas striper for public-works use at $3,500 (motion by Evelyn Duncan, second John Robbins; vote 5-0). The selectmen also approved a three-year street-sweeping contract with a first-year price of $4,800 and modest annual increases thereafter (motion by John Robbins, second John Steed; vote 5-0).
Selectmen authorized a ballfield booking for Sue’s School of Dance for performances on May 22–23 and approved moving certain foreclosed parcels to be sold by bid, including a Hope Young property and possibly an Oceanville parcel (motions and recorded approvals noted in meeting minutes). The board also recorded the appointment of Rufus Kiliam as harbormaster; appointment papers were provided for signature.
Other items included discussion with the town auditor about long-term options for the ICC gym lease and routine warrant and minutes approvals. The board’s motions were recorded in the minutes and staff were assigned follow-up tasks to finalize purchases, contracts and lease or sale paperwork.
