Lisbon committee approves two valve replacements as science-room demolition nears completion

The LCS Science Room Building Committee voted unanimously June 23 to approve purchase and installation of two damaged ball valves after hearing that demolition of the Lisbon Central School science lab is about 90% complete.
Ray Joly moved to approve the purchase and installation of the two ball joints; R. Baah seconded. The committee amended the motion during debate to limit the expenditure to an amount not to exceed $1,000. The amended motion then carried by unanimous vote.
Committee members said casework, workstations and ceiling grids have been removed and disposed of as part of the demolition. The minutes state two of nine ball valves were damaged during demolition; while replacement of all nine was recommended, only the two damaged valves were covered under the current project budget. Ray Joly said he will contact the general contractor to obtain pricing for replacing the two damaged valves.
Members discussed budget cushioning and the risk of further unexpected costs, which prompted the amendment capping the approved spending. The committee recorded no dissenting votes.
Next steps for the construction timeline include removal of the floor at a later date and then painting, ceiling-grid replacement, radiator cleaning and A/C maintenance. The committee asked the general contractor for a more detailed projected schedule with dates for the remaining work.
