Committee reviews cyber-event transfers, insurance coverage and bank balances; PTA donation flagged for next-week vote

Staff told the committee that transfers performed in September were those previously approved in response to a recent cyber event and that the district's insurance appears sufficient to absorb incident-related costs. An administrator said the transfer made after last month's approval should cover the FY26 impact and that any future security-related work likely will be budgeted in later fiscal years for enhanced protocols and vendor services.
"We're well within our insurance limits that it should not hit our operating budget," a staff member said when asked if the incident would create material cost exposure. Committee members requested continued updates and a possible readout from ongoing data analysis by Nov. 1.
The committee also reviewed gifts and donations, including a Ridgeberry PTA donation of $2,150 for a K'5 art enrichment experience that staff said will require a formal vote at next week's full-board meeting; Principal Scaliz is expected to present details then.
Finally, staff presented bank-account balances the committee requested (special donations, building rental, state grants, high-school activities and school lunch). The school-lunch account declined from about $305,000 last September to $135,000 this September; staff attributed the change to graduated students cashing balances and a handful of equipment replacements (an ice machine and a dishwasher) paid from the account.
Next steps: staff will keep the board apprised of any material findings from the cyber-event analysis and will include the PTA donation on next week's agenda for board action.
