The council approved a façade improvement grant request for properties at 101, 103 and 105 North Main, awarding $10,000 toward a $20,000 project that will replace storefront awnings and add a privacy fence behind the buildings to open space for potential outdoor seating at Cedar River Pizza.
Mark Wicks (presenting) described the awning replacement as improving the look of the corner at Main and Central; he and David Rodenhouse answered council questions on project timing and remaining fund balance. Staff said the façade and cultural-entertainment-district funds will have about $1,000 remaining until they are re-allocated on July 1, and that grant recipients receive 35% up front with the remaining 65% paid on project completion.
Council members praised the Rodenhouse family’s investment in the corner and approved the grant by roll call.
What happens next: The applicants will receive initial funding and proceed with awning replacement and related improvements; staff noted additional projects in the pipeline and said remaining funds may require some approvals pending July 1 funding availability.
